i always leave my heart here, but i know it's safe for when i come back the next time. we roll into town a little late, but the crew at the independent are friendly and engaging and we get it done in no time. my sister Debbie greets me at the venue and it's all hugs and smiles and holding hands. we hightail it to memphis minnie's in lower haight, our old stomping ground, eat second-rate bbq and swing dance with the chef from wyoming. it's all action and engagement with life right now. i get to set up merch in the room with the band, and watch the show. tonight it strikes me how happy i am to be working with dean & britta. how much luna & galaxie 500 have meant to me over the years. i sell out of CD's and the t-shirts are close behind. the show is loose and funny and the audience are wrapt. squid from peaches comes & hangs out for a while - i am seeing the whole band & crew up the coast. nice. check in at the phoenix - my first time at l'hotel de rock en san francisco...we skip off to the hemlock to see sonic boom play. this is a good night for music and history and me.
