Peaches Tour: Day Three - Warsaw
Right now I'm sitting backstage at The "Summer Of Music" Festival here in Warsaw, in a "media" tent. Enormous mosquitos are a-hovering, and some dreadful band called "Dicks4Dicks" are playing. The festival is at an old racetrack, apparently mainly disused now, but beautiful in its run down state. It's been sunny, and the food has been exceptional. Unfortunately we've not had a lot of time to explore Warsaw at all. Only Sam (drummer, formerly with Hole, Eagles Of Death Metal & Motley Crue!) & Peaches (boss lady) have been here before, so we're all psyched for some exploration.
First impressions: another modern city with bad traffic problems and outdated public transport systems. Staying at The Raddisson didn't really do much to change that impression, but walking for about 10 minutes to the "old city" for dinner last night gave us a better sense of how things are. That part of town was beautiful, and lots of the buildings beautifully restored, or in the process of being so. Reminds me a lot of other parts of Eastern Europe, especially as the language is so similar. We all hit the pool/jacuzzi/sauna for some rnr and exercise last night straight after check-in, which was great. I must have swum about 50 laps. funny as the two roadies/stage techs, Dylan (Thing 1) & Brendan (Thing 2), are tattooed all over, so gave the other hotel guests something to gawp at!
Of course then hunger set in, so after a glass of wine in Peaches room, a group of us headed out to aforementioned Old Town to a restaraunt specialising in Pierogis = like ravioli, but not in sauce. and stuffed with all kinds of goodness. a polish tradition. the waiter was hysterical and very attentive, had a blast.
even made it to bed before midnight. i was sharing a room with JD, looks like she'll be my roomie along the way. we don't have hotels very often. day rooms mostly, if that. JD and i have both heard a lot about each other, as my dear friend Amy (TM on the Sinead O'Connor tour) used to tour manage Le Tigre.
i stacked my computer with a tonne of music from beth's collection (thanks lady!!), so have been listening to music all afternoon whilst counting merch (so we don't have to load in 23 boxes each day) and working on a new whizz-bang spreadsheet i set up! the festival is selling our merch today, and for only 10%, so i've been chilling. well, aside from 3 hours in the dirty trailer! i am fility, and no shower until tomorrow! yuck. Dancing and singing to The Nuggets compilation and The Faces all afternoon made it all a-okay...
So like i said, festival itself is in old racecourse just outside of warsaw. beautiful, and although it looks like the horses no longer run, they ran here yesterday. a red full moon rises, daft punk funk out in a lit-up pyramid, and maximo park charm the hot polish ladies with their, well, charm...

photos care of dave.
Tomorrow: travel day back to Berlin.
