last night i dreamt about a friend i hadn't thought about for a long time. we were at university at the same time together. i had a big crush on him, but that was actually beside the point. he was a kind, creative & inspired soul. he was my friend & introduced me to a beautiful crowd of people in a not so beautiful country town, Lismore. his name was Shane Gelagin. He died of a heroin overdose in january 2003. he was a songwriter, a wonderful storyteller, with a unique & inquiring mind. that's how i will always remember him. he fronted a band called the simpletons. i went to dig out all my old simpletons cd's, but they are nowhere to be found...hopefully my folks are keeping them safe. my mum always liked them.
on a lighter note, yesterday my friend Pegg & i took a head-clearing drive down to frankston...gold 104 blaring as we raced down the Nepean Highway, working through our life issues. our destination: Frankston Savers, the jewel in the savers crown...
treasures:
1 bright orange anodised crock pot
1 bright orange anodised saucepan
1 bright orange anodised frypan (all with matching lids)
1 brown velour hoodie (for the gym)
1 brown handbag, with silver clasp and fake animal fur
1 pair of brown footrest granny style mary-janes
1 blue frosted shot glass, to be used for tea lights in the bathroom...
1 Rolf's Walkabout book
1 cassette; Madonna like a prayer for the drive past Albert Park Lake
Pegg invested in some audio cassette gems: Kim Wilde, Bananarama, & The Best of Glam...we drove home past all the posh houses & palm trees, screaming the lyrics to Love In The First Degree, Cambodia, Kids in America & Fox On The Run at the top of our lungs.
As a perfect end to the day, i worked the door at The Corner, for a JMC end of year show. 80's themed. i got my flashdance on to what a feelin' & shimmied & sang my l'il heart out to ballroom blitz . Sweeeeeeet.
